Deep tissue massage uses many of the same techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure is generally more intense, focusing on deeper layers of muscle tissue. The purpose is to "unstick"
the fibers of the muscle while releasing deeply held patterns of tension. When muscles are stressed, they block oxygen and nutrients, leading to inflammation that builds up toxins in the muscle tissue. A deep tissue massage helps loosen muscle tissues, release toxins from muscles and get blood and oxygen circulating properly.
Deep tissue massage is accomplished by working the underlying layers of muscles, tendons, connective tissue, and fascia. It is effective because it uses very slow strokes and more direct, deep pressure or friction applied across the grain of the muscles, not with the
grain. A therapist will use deep tissue massage to provide a more therapeutic effect by massaging all layers from superficial (closer to the skin) to deep (closer to the bone). It is suitable for all who want an invigorating, yet also relaxing massage experience.
Deep tissue massage is verybeneficial for those who suffer from headaches, lower back pain or stiff shoulders and neck. However, deep work is contraindicated for very thin or older clients, as heavy pressure on persons who are elderly or who do not have sufficient muscle mass could cause injury.
Deep Tissue Massage, head, neck and back, 30 minutes...................$40

Deep Tissue Massage, full body, 75 minutes................... ...................$75
Because deep tissue massage uses intense pressure, the client can expect to feel some discomfort and pain. However, it is important to tell your therapist if the pain is too uncomfortable for you.
It is normal to feel some soreness after a deep tissue massage, but it should subside in a day or two. Applying ice to the sore areas after the massage should help alleviate some of the pain.
